This time of year we hear a lot about gifts. No matter the holiday, it seems there is some sort of gift giving involved. Companies and stores seem to think they know what great gifts are-just turn on the television and watch the bombardment of commercials about why the latest gadgets are the greatest ever invented. I know my four year old thinks he knows what the greatest gifts are-a paw patroller for him and a race car for Mom. (Now that does sound like a lot of fun!) But seriously, what are the greatest gifts? Maybe you've received something in the past for a birthday or a holiday that really stood out to you. Maybe you're planning to give someone something this year that you're really excited about. What is it about gifts that makes us want them and also inspires us to give them? What is it behind all these gifts, anyway?

Due to the lack of access to computers at school this week, posting is not required. If you would like to receive an extra credit grade, feel free to comment on the following post. This week we are all learning the language of code in our school. This is a great opportunity for our students to learn the language that creates everything from computer software to the apps. on our phones. Learning code prepares us to be active participants in a technological world. So, what is your experience with coding? Do you know a lot? A little? What are your questions? What can you share? As citizens of this world, you should know what is going on around you, locally, nationally, internationally, intergalactically...information is knowledge and knowledge is power and those who have the power have the control. Or something like that. So, how do you get your information? How do you stay informed about what is going on in the world? Do you read the newspaper? Magazines? Watch the news on TV? Listen to the radio? Use the computer? What sites do you go to? How much of your news is reliable? How much comes through a lens of bias or is manipulated in some way? Do you consider yourself to be "informed"? For this week's blog, respond to the questions above and make sure to also comment on at least one other blog post from your classmates. |
