This week we are all learning the language of code in our school. This is a great opportunity for our students to learn the language that creates everything from computer software to the apps. on our phones. Learning code prepares us to be active participants in a technological world. So, what is your experience with coding? Do you know a lot? A little? What are your questions? What can you share?
Due to the lack of access to computers at school this week, posting is not required. If you would like to receive an extra credit grade, feel free to comment on the following post.

I do not know much about coding. I hadn't even heard of it until Mrs. Simons told us we would be doing an hour of code during language arts class. All I really know about it is that coding can make games, apps, help people with their jobs, exc. I also know that during this hour of code we will be creating a game of one of three choices. What I want to know is how we are going to do it. How do we make games? Where are we doing this hour of code? Are we actually creating a game that people will be able to play?

before I had the hour of code this week I didn't know much about coding. my sister did it when she was in 7th grade so I knew some basic steps and my dad is an electrical engineer so he knows some things but he doesn't really share. i found it to be really cool, and fun though and when I get home I'm going to do more of it on my own computer.

I have a question that you may not be able to answer, who came up with the codes?

I know a little bit about coding. I have used and seen very simple Java script. My advice is that if you liked hour of code this week than you should look into learning more.

What we did on Wed. is my only coding experience. Sadly I have no advice to anyone, but I don't have any questions.

I know a little bit about coding, but not very much. My older brother takes AP computer science and has learned a lot about it this year. Maybe he can teach me some! I liked how easy it was to make a flappy bird game in the amount of time it took. I ended up sending it to Kayla's phone. She told me it was the best game she ever played!

I have a lot of experience with coding. I started in March 2014 with the language Python. However, I wanted to code with graphics, but I could not seem to get the library for it to work. Finally, in July 2014 I figured out how to get graphics. I programmed some very basic games using it, but I soon discovered that it was inefficient, and Python was not meant to be used for graphics. In September 2015, I discovered Khan Academy coding. It is a great site, with tutorials, voting programs, sharing, commenting, etc. However, after about a week, I lost intrest in it. Fortunately, in January 2015 I decided to start doing it again. I made my first program, Drawings, which eventually got 19 likes. Later, I made programs like an interactive egg dyer, a story about pi, and an animation about Amelia Earhart. (All of these were for very popular Programming Contests on Khan Academy.) Finally, in May 2015 I made my first game. It was a basic game, where you control a tadpole and avoid sticks, logs, and coral reefs. I kept making more programs, and in August 2015 I made my most complex game, a game where you can play Poker with 5 different Computer AI's. I was very proud of this program, but sadly, it only got 17 likes. Then, I devoted most of my time to programming a Platformer called Platformania, which I released September 2015. This got 282 likes, and was the most popular program for two days straight! After that, I started programming on KhanTober, a Khan Academy event where you post a program each week of October. One of my programs, a game called Shoot, got over 100 votes. After that, I considered making a game called AirPlanes, but then I noticed that about 1/3 of the comments on Platformania were negative. I realized that it could use some improvement, so I started making a Platformania 2, which will be out on January 9. Other ideas for programs I might make in the future include a basketball program, a rubix cube solver, possibly a car racing program, and a quiz maker. This is my story as a programmer, and I understand that this is probably the longest blog post anyone has ever made!

I don't know that much about code. The first time that I've ever used code was on Thursday at school for the hour code. I thought that coding was going to be hard but, after I tried it I thought it was really fun. A question that I have would be, What types of other coding is there? Does it look different when professionals do it? I thinkI might even teach my sister how to code.

This week I did coding for the first time. I wasn't to good at it. I would say I know very little but I guess it was fun. Is coding like games?

Coding is not actually a game, I would say, but it is the process that makes a game come to life.

I think I only know a little about coding. Even through we had the coding at the school I think I only know a little about the world of coding. How advance can you make coding? Does everything require coding?I can share that coding is very cool but complicated.

Coding can be very advanced some of the time. As for your other question, basically everything you do on a computer requires coding.

I have experienced coding before Wednesday. Last Christmas, my dad got me a book filled with directions for basic coding. I know a pretty good amount about coding, because I did it a while ago. I still remember that instead of just dragging the words to the coding box as we did on Wednesday, you have to come up with what you are going to type. One question I have is: how long does it take to code a game like FIFA 16, Madden, etc.?

Like Sydney and Marsh, this week was the first time I have ever used code. At first, I was having trouble with it, but then I got the hang of it. I think for beginners, using code is very hard. You just have to keep going at it if you want to be an expert. Some questions I have are, "Are there professional coders throughout the world? How did they get the job?"

I don't know much about code other than what we learned on wednesday. I have to say it was fun and hope we do it again. Was "Hour of Code" recently created? Why don't we do more coding. The school could turn it in to an extracurricular activity.

When I first heard about coding, I didn't know much about it. All I really knew about coding was that it creates a game. I've also never tried it until the hour of coding from last Thursday. I thought it was really unique and was different. I really enjoyed the session, but does it seriously take that long to do a simple movement? I might show my mom how to do it or something.

Sometimes I code when I play Minecraft. But I think coding is hard. I also think it can be fun.

Wednesday was the first time for me to trying coding. First he was really hard I thought but than it got easier. When I heard we were doing coding I knew a little bits of it from by friend who does it. The question I have is can you make any games with it or only certain ones?

I don't know too much about coding, but it always seemed interesting to me. When I was coding for the Hour of Code, I clicked on the button to show the actual code. Some of it I recognized, some of it I didn't. Coding can be complicated sometimes, but it kind of sounds like fun.

Before Wednesday, I didn't know coding existed. At first, I thought it was going to be really hard. It took about 30 minutes, but I got the hang of it and started flying through all the levels. Coding was exciting, but complicated, but either way, it is something I want to attempt outside of class.

I knew about coding since I was 7 and I tried it when I was 8 at a camp. Almost every year i've been able to do a bit of coding or more during the summer at a camp or at home. I don't really have any questions about coding because I think I know more then most people would know about coding. I can share that coding is in every single computer game, video game, computer, phone, phone app etc etc.

Going in to last week I knew little about coding. I thought the coding experience was challenging and I don't know how they create computers and other things when I can barely make the game frozen. I would like to try more coding and have many questions. One question I have is how the use coding to create a robot or computer.

When I first heard the the name I had know idea what that was and a was very nervous about it because I didn't know a thing about coding and it turns out that is was very fun even though I haven't done it since.
