Every story has messages for the reader. S.E. Hinton chooses Ponyboy Curtis as the narrator who tells a story she believed was important for people to hear. What do you think her messages for us, the readers, are? What comments is she making about growing up, friendship, family, loyalty, justice, honor, bravery, truth, adults, heroes, segregation, violence, stereotypes, identity, or our society as a whole? Choose a topic and comment about what you think this story's message is, and in a few sentences, explain your reasoning.

The Outsiders is a really good book. I think S.E. Hinton’s message is that not everyone's the same but you have to treat everybody with respect. I think she is mostly making comments about segregation. I think this because in the book you can tell that there are two different groups, and one is more popular maybe has more money. The Socs in the book and mean and stronger than the Greasers and you can tell by what they do in the book.

S.E. Hinton is telling us readers to be thankful for what you have and be thankful for all your friends because they will help you along the way. Ponyboy’s parents died and he has his two brothers, Sodapop and Darry. But he also has Dally, Two-bit, and Johnny. When Ponyboy and Johnny run away, they help each other to figure out what to do and how to not get caught. Dally comes around and helps them out too. Then Johnny, sadly, dies. Ponyboy goes home and is really thankful that his friends can help him and he is not alone.

Friendship is so powerful and no one should take it for granted. I think the gang didn’t realize this until Johny and Dally died.

They were very thankful for all of their friends, especially when two of the members died!

I think her message to us as readers was to stay strong no matter what happens. As well as, to believe in what you believe in and never give up. I think that is the message.

I think the message in the Outsiders is that life can be tough but you just need to keep your head up. also, that family is important and you need to stick together and support each other.

The gang always did stay together and they were always there for each other and I think more people should be like them.

I believe that Hilton is trying to teach us friendship, trust, and the courage to do the right thing. All through the book none of the boys are perfect, far from it. But they stick together, support each other. that is friendship. They trust each other to back them up when one of them is in a corner. None of us are perfect, but we all try to do the right thing for ourselves and others.

I think the book The Outsiders has lots of messages in it. One lesson that it teaches us is that family always sticks together. Even though they're not related, Pony, Johnny and Dally always stuck together. Since they didn't really have a close family they were each other's family. At the end of the book when Pony and Darry are fighting, Sodapop breaks them apart because they are family and they are supposed to stick together.

I believe the message that S.E Hinton is trying to get across is that we are all human no matter what we look like or what houses we live in.

Hinton is trying to teach, staying together. All throughout the book, the Greasers stuck together. Although there were some fights within the group, the main goal was not to split.

In The Outsiders S.E. Hinton makes lots of comments on how violence is bad and the results of fighting through Johnny. On page 148 Johnny states that fighting is useless in response to news of the rumble. At this point he has realized that there is no reason to fight and beating the Socs will do nothing. Earlier in the book Ponyboy and Johnny are attacked and Johnny kills Bob. In the church he says, “Shut up about last night! I killed a kid last night. He couldn’t have been over seventeen or eighteen, and I killed him. How do you live with that?” He knows violence is wrong and regrets his actions. S.E. Hinton clearly feels very strongly about the topic of violence.

I believe that when you grow up with a group or family like that group you feel welcome. It is a good feeling when you know that no matter what happens to you people are gonna be there for you and having older brothers like myself and also Ponyboy it makes you feel almost safer about being somewhere when you have them there.

I enjoyed reading The Outsiders, and I think the author was telling us that families come in all forms. For example, the "gang" is like a family because they are all there for each other. Maybe they aren't blood related, but sometimes your closest friends can become family.

I feel like S.E. Hinston's message was to respect people for who they are and to not judge people by what the wear or where they live. She was saying to stop and think about what it would be like to walk in there shoes and to see what they have to go through.

The Outsiders is a good book. I think the message is that not everyone's the same. I think this because in the book there are two different groups, one is is the socs, they're more popular, maybe has more money so they can dress up. The greasers have no money, and usually wear the same clothes everyday. I think they could dress up fancy if they want , in a way, dending what you think fancy means.

I believe that S. E. Hinton was trying to tell us about stereotypes and how they cloud our judgement. Throughout the book, S. E. Hinton shows us that greasers aren't just low life thugs that jump people. They have feelings, a family, a life.

I LOVE this book and movie and everything about it. I think S.E Hinton was showing that what you think is one thing and through someone else's eyes it can be completely different. Take the greasers. They don't have the best of everything and they aren't exactly the type everyone wants to talk to (soc's). And then you have the soc's. They have troubles but not like the greasers and they have lots of many different things, tuff cars, and pretty much anything they want at anytime. Two completely different points of view this world once had. (Outsiders are Awesome FYI

I think the message in the Outsiders is that everybody is nice in their own way. All of the Greasers cared for each other and so did the Socs. Pony and Cherry were nice to each other even if they came from different places. They may have different ways of expressing that they care for each other, but they still do.

I think that S.E. Hilton was telling a story with a message about loyalty because loyalty is the key to friendship. I think this because the greasers gang all stuck up for each other like family; they always had each other's backs.

I think S.E. Hilton is saying how much family matters and how it builds trust and honesty. We all need family in our lives.Without family we would have nobody to lean on. No people to go to when you need help. Family is not just a thing it's a necessity.

I really loved the Outsiders. I believe that the author was trying to say that family can come in all different forms. The group of boys Ponyboy was with were all very close, like family. They were not blood related, but they acted like they were

The Outsiders was an amazing book that showed perseverance, friendship, and losing people that mattered most. I think S.E Hinton's message was to never leave your friends, always stick by them like family. Her message was also to stay young or to "stay gold" instead of getting old and grey.

I think S.E Hinton was trying to tell us that not everyone is how they look at first glace. Like how despite Ponyboy being a greaser he was actually a good person.
