| As we begin to wrap up and revise our poems and "This I Believe Essays," you will all have the opportunity to present your work to your peers. In terms of poetry, specifically, it's not always about what is on the paper, but how you present your work to an audience. Select ONE person (actor, politician, teacher etc.), and explain ONE characteristic that makes he or she an effective speaker. How does that characteristic make his or her speech engaging? Think about that person's body language, voice inflection, and their "so what?" |

One person that I think is a really good actor is Robert Downey jr. I like him because when he plays in the marvel super hero movies, he is really funny. The way he says his lines really makes a difference. For example is he mumbles it or says it really loud makes a big difference on how people hear it. His body language really explains his speech further and that's what makes it so funny.

My person is Lea Michele. As a child she was bullied because she was different and she wrote a book called brunette ambition and its all about her and her life, but it's also very inspiring and was inspired me was how she talked about how she over came it. She talks about how you shouldn't let people bring you down, and she was a singer her whole life and she never stopped no matter what people said. She also made it big in broadway and hollywood.

Martin Luther King jr gave a powerful speech in 1963. It was his "I have a dream speech". One effective characteristic was that he spoke with confidence. He spoke very loud so people could hear his opinion and what he had to say. He also gave lots of eye contact. Lastly, he didn't say any umms or likes and kept the flow going. Martin Luther King jr gave an amazing speech because he had great characteristics.

I am choosing to use Cold Play as my example. I choose them because when the preform they interact with the audience. They sing/play loud enough for everyone to hear them. They also connect with the audience using the lyrics that they sing.

I'm choosing my father as my example. I choose him because when he speaks he uses force but also a certain calmness in his voice. Another reason is before he corrects you or a group he gives you an complement. An finally he is very enthusiastic when he talks. This is why he is a very successful speaker.

The person I am choosing is Cam Newton because he is not just a great football player but a great role model. Even though he lost in the super bowl so many kids look up to him like me and he is always interacting with kids with enthusiasm and giving someone the ball after he scores a touchdown.

In my opinion Ellen DeGeneres is a great effective speaker because she always is interacting with the audience on her talk show and is always asking people to come up on the stage.

The person that is a great speaker to me is Barac Obama. He is able to speak to America with out getting nervous, thats like 12,000,000 people, how does he do that?! He remains calm, stands up straight, shows expression, is relatable, and is confident in his speech. He is very very good at speaking in public, more of in america.

A person that is a great speaker is Will Ferrel. A characteristic that makes me like him is his ability of relating one thing to another to make it funny. This makes him get full eye contact and full attention from the crowd. He engages with people by asking them if they know so and so and they relate that person to another to make it really funny. Other people agree with me because they have the same thought as I do. Will Ferrel is a perfect speaker.

Michelle Obama is an amazing speaker. She not only inspires so many adults and kids in such a positive way, but she does it in such a persuasive yet kind way. She always has so much enthusiasm while speaking. I think that her enthusiasm and positive attitude is why she is so successful. Also in her speeches, she uses a very particular vocabulary to connect to the audience she is speaking with. Michelle Obama has and always will be an amazing speaker.

The person that I chose is My father. I chose him because his voice is very hard to not hear so you pretty much have to listen no matter if you want to or not. Also he gets his point across ed with few words he makes it short and sweet. My dad is a good public speaker.

I am going to choose my dad. He is a SU professor, so he does a lot of speaking to his classes. I was able to see him teach a class near Thanksgiving, and I saw that he spoke confidently and clearly. Also, he did a lot of hand movements. He spoke with passion, and occasionally made a joke or two. He was able to keep most of his students interested and listening.

Even though I don't agree with him at all, I do think Donald Trump is an effective speaker. He has good ideas and bad ideas, but he always gets people's attention. He speaks whatever he believes no matter what people say or think. This is a greatly effective way to get your ideas across. His body language and facial expressions are dramatic and miserable.

One strong speaker was Martin Luther King Jr. He was a strong speaker because when he spoke he projected his voice out and didn't mumble. He did this because if he didn't he would be seen as a weak leader and his campaign would have fallen apart. Also they way he spoke his words was very compelling. It made you stop, and say, "I want to hear what this man has to say."

The one person that I think is a strong speaker is my mother. I believe that she is a strong speaker because she projects loudly. Also, since my mom works in the courtroom, they use a lot of body language. This can include hand gestures, facial expressions, and body movements. My mom can also be persuasive by getting people to listen to her point of view.

The person I chose is Jesus because He was engaging and made parables about people like the crowd. He always found away to project His voice as well, like talking on a boat over a lake.

One motivational speaker I think Inspires is Nick Vulicic. Nick was bored with no arms or legs, but nick lives a very happy life. He talks to big crowds about the importance in life and how you should never give up. Nick has a great impression on everyone's lives.

An effective speaker in my life is Kevin Frank. He is in charge of the Brady Faith Center, which is a place where individuals and families can "gather to meet their educational and spiritual needs." He makes his speech SO engaging by changing the tone of his voice and using hand signals. But most of all, the way he presents speeches can be understood by people of all ages.

Kevin Hart. He is a great speaker, of poetry in some ways. He is a standup comedian and actor. When he speaks he always has enthusiasm and a point. He really interacts with his audience. He uses hand gestures when he speaks. Also he uses topics that relate to his audience. He is one of the best standup comedians in the world.

I think Martin Luther King Jr is a fascinating, wonderful and marvelous speaker. He spoke out against human rights for African Americans. He spoke in front of millions of people everyday even when he knew he could go to jail or be shot and killed. But he had passion. A passion like no other.
