Consider the stories you have heard from Salva Dut, John Bul Dau and Garbriel Bol Deng. Water is clearly a focal point in all of the stories...but we heard other stories as well about refugees, the Lost Boys, conflict and resolution, civil war, journeys, hope, family, tribes/cultures, geography and its impact on human endeavors, cultures, and civilizations.

I wasn't here to hear Gabriel Bol Dang's story, but I saw John's documentary. His story really stood out to me, especially since he came to Syracuse. John's story really connects to my dad's story except all the killing. My dad came here for freedom, so did John. Both John and my dad worked so very hard to get what they wanted. They both accomplished b great things. John had it harder of course not knowing where his parents were. Until that spark of hope came to John, and he found his mom. That was the best part of the documentary.

Salva Dut’s story especially stood out to me. He had many moments where he was discouraged but he kept on going. I learned that we all can be like Salva and keep on going even when things are hard. Another part of Salva’s story that stood out to me was at the end of the book when he helped his enemy’s tribe build a school and get them clean water. This is inspiring because even though his people had a bad history he still helped them. I learned from Salva’s story that everyone needs help and it doesn't matter who you are you can still help them.

John Bul Dau was my favorite story. He put his friends and family before himself. I learned from him that even though you may not be super wealthy. He took America as a chance to make a better future for not only himself but his family. That is why he was my favorite.

The story that stood out to me the most is Salva Dut's. The reason his story stood out to me is because his journey follows a path similar to the heroic journey. Salva Dut's story is very interesting because instead of someone explaining the problems in Sudan, the story is told through the eyes of someone who went through these problems as an individual.

The story that stood out for me was John Bul Dau's story because of how brave he was and how he put others first. He helped the people back in his homeland and never gave up on helping the people there. I learned from his story that even thought you are thousands of miles from your home you should always remember where you came from. I also learned that you should always help out in your community.

Mr. Bol Deng’s story taught me a lot. One part that stood out to me was when he was telling us about when he was watching the cows grazing in the field and he came across people that were trying to kill everyone in South Sudan. He made so many quick decisions that ended up saving his life. If I was in that situation, then I don’t know what I would do.

Gabriel Bol Deng’s story stood out to me. I was really interested in his school. I enjoyed when he was talking about how they trained teachers and the video of the girls saying what they wanted to do with their education. I learned that getting an education is really hard in South Sudan.

Gabriel Bol Dang's story probably stood out the most to me. Obviously all of the lost boys' stories had to do with helping their country, but having an actual lost boy tell us what he did and is doing to help his country face-to-face was cool. It was pretty amazing how much they can accomplish by just doing the littlest things. It's also amazing how much they can do like creating a school and t-shirts for the kids if they just stick to their idea.

A concept that really stood out to me was how much cattle is worth in Sudan.I learned that the families with the most cattle were considered very wealthy, and the people with the least cattle were considered poor.

John Bul Dau’s story was my favorite. John Bul Dau’s documentary “God Grew” Tired of Us was funny and serious at the same time. Seeing John Bul Dau and his family learning how to use electronics made me laugh a little. The documentary also made me aware of what is going on in Africa, starvation, lack of water, poverty. They might not have lived a life everyone dreams of, but they took advantage of what they could afford and what they had around them and made the best of it.

I liked John Dau's story better. Although, I liked that Gabriel Bol made schools after coming from Sudan. I liked that in "God Grew Tired of Us" they showed their reactions to new things, the plane ride, and John Dau saying goodbye to everyone in the refugee camp. I liked how in Gabriel Bol's presentation, he showed his log journey to the refugee camp, the schools he built, and who it affected. I was also impressed with all that we donated to his organization.

The story that stood out to me was Salva's story. I know every story was true, but I think Salva had the worst of it. He lost his mother, father, brothers, and sisters, and his uncle who got shot right in front of him. What I think I am trying to say is Salva went through the worst in comparison to Gabriel Bol Deng and John Bul Dau. But, that is only my opinion.

The story that really stood out to me was Salva Dut’s. I thought his story was the most touching because he had to watch his uncle die. Salva also had to deal with the loss of his family and his friend. Salva was very young when all of this happened. I can’t imagine what it would be like to have to go through all of that horrible stuff.

John Bul Dau’s story stood out the most. It’s hard to walk miles with very little food and water but he did. He survived on his own without his family or friends. When he got to America he had to learn new things like driving a car and the new rules. He had to get a job and go grocery shopping. John Bul Dau had to face many challenges in his lifetime being a lost boy.

The story that stood out the most in Gabriel Bol Deng's. His story was the most inspiring because he went through so many challenges that I would probably not do. He witnessed gun shots and he walked for miles upon miles just to get to a safe land. No food, no water, he starved and was thirsty for a while.

The story that stood out to me was Salva Dut's. This is because it shows that if you put your mind to something and believe that you can do it...you can. An example is that when Salva's uncle kept saying, "Just go to the next bush,” every time he reached one of them that is showing determination.

Salva Duk’s story really stood out to me. This young boy watching a war take place right at his front door. Salva also lived without water. Living without water is a so serious and not having access to clean water is serious too. I haved learned not to take water for granted. Don’t water your lawn wait for it to rain, don’t leave your sprinkler on when you are not using it. I have learned how precious water is. This is truly an inspiring story.

My favorite story out of the three is probably Salva Dut’s. It really touched me and made be realize that I’m lucky for what I have in life.He had cows, which meant his family was rich in Sudan. He had a family, and he could go to school even though it was far away he had a lot in Sudan and it reminds me of my grandfather just go to everything to nothing in just minutes.

Something that I've learned from this unit, is that not all places have it easy when it comes to water. From Salva's book, I've learned that his whole country struggles to get water, even to this day! That must be really hard, especially in a place that's always hot.

Hi, I’m Jarrod, a kid who wears pants. Salva Dut’s story stood out to me because it showed that a TON of people in Africa don’t have water and it makes me feel bad because we have so much but WE don’t really do much about it. We really should start a bottled water GoFundMe for Africa so the population of won’t stop shrinking everyday. Remember, we are all equal. Just because they are in another continent doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t share what we have with them. That’s just not fair to all the people who don’t have as much as we do. Anyways, I need to go and do something with my life. Bye!

I liked Salva Dut's story because it was very realistic to me and he had the hardest life out of all of them to me. It is my opinion, but thats what I think. He literally saw his uncle get shot right in front of him and yet he still went going. I learned from his story that being pain and hardships can make you even more determined to do things and be stronger.

This isn't really a story, but part of Salva's story. When he made his friend and found his uncle, he was very happy and felt more relaxed. But, his friend was nowhere to be found the next morning, and soon after that, his uncle got shot and died. What I took away from that is, good things never last forever. But, he used his uncle's words to inspire to go on. So, I also learned, good things don't last forever, but you can make them last forever.

The story that stood out to me the most was Salva Dut's. It stood out to me because his story follows an identical path to the Hero's Journey. I like how the story is told from this point of view because we get to experience his emotions. After the war, he does something that's very kind. He built wells all over Sudan, even for the enemy tribe, which was a nice thing to do. Salva Dut has lost a lot in the war. But he always had hope.

Gabriel Bol Deng’s story stood out to me the most. His story gave a broader idea to what's happening to people in Sudan. It also, is telling the struggles faced in America. The part that stood out to me the most was when Gabriel was reunited with his mom. The one out of many things I learned from it was that hope is a big thing when alone. Gabriel had hope that his mom was alive and she would came back to him.
