What is one story of America that you have heard in class through student presentations? Did hearing this story cause you to think differently about what is America? What are some stories that we haven't heard yet, but that need to be told?

One story of America that I have heard through class presentations is a story of America told through music (recent music icons). This story did change how I view America because I didn't fully see the impact of music's numerous genres on our tastes and pop culture development in this country. A story of America that I haven't heard yet is a story (of America) told through the perspective of slaves.

Music is a language everyone can speak. If you looking for a story fom the perspective of slaves, Chains is a wonderful novel, though rough at times.

That the iphone tells the story of America because it shows how we are so advanced in technology.

The presentation about food waste made me think about homeless people and people who do not have enough food. They should be getting the food we waste. Other countries think America is great and rich. I feel people think this because magazines show pictures of rich celebrities, and lots of food. To save food people should take leftovers home, bring a little less to school and not take food that you know you won't eat from the cafeteria. Another story is about bad meat sold almost 100 years ago that was rotten. Finally, the government made up rules for the meat industry. I would like to learn more.

I agree, just because we are America, it certainly doesn't mean we don't have less fortunate people here.

I liked this presentation, I thought it was interesting. Personally, I never thought about popular, newer bands being an important part in the American story, until the presentation.

One topic I heard was about Thanksgiving. I have always viewed Thanksgiving as a holiday when the pilgrims came to America and settled there. They made friends with the Native Americans living there, and they taught them how to hunt and fish, and they had a big feast to celebrate. That story actually didn't tell about how the Pilgrims and the Native Americans didn't get along, and fought over land and much more. Finally, the two sides got along, and together they feasted on the food they had hunted together.

One story of America that I heard in class was Thanksgiving, also. This might seem like a basic story, but it did change the way I saw America. Like Maeve, I never really paid attention to how Thanksgiving came to be. I always thought it was a feast that celebrated the Pilgrims coming to America, and thanking the Native Americans for their help. Now, I see that it also celebrates the differences in America, and how without differences and other races, we wouldn't even be America!

One story I heard was the BP oil spill. Though I knew some details about it, I was shocked to see those pictures and hear the whole story. It definitely changed my view of America.

One story I heard was about iPhone. In the presentation I learned that Apple was the first company to create a smart phone. I think that the story of the first smart phone is an important story to tell because it show that America is an original country ans has original ideas. Overall I thought the presentation on iPhone's was interesting and informative because I learned that something so valued in life today was created in America.

A story that I heard was about American woman through 100 years. I learned that woman couldn't do half of the things that they do today. They had to be a stay at home mother or a teacher, they even had to ask their husband to go shopping! I'm so glad that I wasn't born 100 years ago.

One story (or more like many stories) that has been told, and yet is ignored by many, is about immigration and equality. Our country is made up from immigrants around the globe, and should have the same rights and should not be segregated from others. Even if our origins are different, we should all be treated equally. This totally changed my perspective on how so many people don't realize this.

One story I have heard in class so far is equal rights. Back then, many people treated other people unfairly because of their skin color. I hate to see people treated poorly and not have the same rights as other people do. I bet it would be a different country if this was still here. I think I couldn't live a day without getting teased everyday.

One of the stories of America that I thought was cool in the presentations was the music. I really liked how they expressed how music has changed through the ages and how music has changed people's lives. I also liked the story that explained what a person's job was like back in the day to present day. It showed that many things have changed and many people have more rights to do things they couldn't do back in the day.

One story I heard in class was black lives matter. Our country's police force has killed many African Americans for no real reason or they gave themselves a reason. I have heard about this in the news and other places and the project I heard in class gave more evidence for this.

One story I heard in class that I liked was cartoon character presentation. Our country has a lot of very unique characters and a lot of very old characters. I have heard about some of them but this presentation told me about a lot more of them.

One story I have heard in class is immigration I believe we are all immigrants. Nobody should be separated and we all should be treated equally and fairly. We should not be treated differently because we are a different race or just different in general. Learning about immigration completely changed my view on the story of America

I agree with this one hundred percent. It saddens me that my family and I need to be scared for the refugees that we put a great deal of our money into and that we are already have to come up with an emergency plan for the people in the outreach centers in the area. I hope that it is realized that this shouldn't be needed.

The story that I heard about America was the one that my group and I did. I realized that we have so much, but we also just waste it. We waste so much food that we need to do something about it as soon as possible! if you can, I think we should give the food that we don't eat to people who do need it as long as it is whole and clean.

One of the stories of America that I liked was one that talked about the different cultures in America. It talked about how everyone is different. It also talked about different religions and how people celebrate and speak differently.
